Short guides to get you started with LicenseTrail

Smart vs Simple Mode

Two ways to track hours. Pick the one that fits you.

LicenseTrail has two ways to track your hours. You choose on the Tracking setup page.

Smart Mode: LicenseTrail does the checking

Your license and state board tell us what you need. As you log hours, we sort them into your board's categories and show how close you are to each requirement.

Pick Smart if you want guidance and automatic progress against your board's rules.

Simple Mode: you are in charge

You type in how many hours you need (for example, Direct, Indirect and Supervision) and log against those. Progress is a plain total. We don't check anything against board rules.

Pick Simple if you'd rather keep it basic, or your requirements don't match a standard board setup.

Can I change later?

Yes. Switch any time on Tracking setup or by editing your license on the License page. Moving from Simple to Smart can mean re-categorizing some older logs so they fit your board's buckets.

Not sure? Start with Smart.
